Vambitzzzz

Herro there!

Been working hard~! I absolutely love my new job, drawing and concept-art'ing all day is quite wonderful. On top of that we got a TEE-VEE! I can finally play chuchu rocket 8D!

Havent had the chance to paint for myself much, though me and ika have been building vambits for fun! Out of the pieces we have left. I love these so much, experimented a little with them ;).

Here's a teaser for the painting i started recently~. Im not really far into it and im having a hard time with it so thats all im showing. Hopefully this painting will end well ;)

Faces, old and new

I dont post a lot of sketches in my more...realistic style. I get the feeling people like that style less haha, cutesy drawings are easier to like i suppose :). Either way, some of these characters go WAY back and they mean a lot to me. I still write stories with them every now and then. When im sick of painting and working, ill often just start doodling these guys and instantly feel better :). I dont know, i love 'em!

Kim and Seir, that fuzz in her back isnt hair. Its way cooler than hair.

I dont draw girls often enough, so i created Agrat... i havent found a decent body shape for her yet so for now shes just a head.

ITS SO NICE OUT! Been biking, working in-between biking sessions :>. Feels great! Also been sketching in PS for fun~

Random face and Sokka with water tribe war paint ;). Love the face paint designs in avatar :>. Me and Ika have been watching (and re-watching) the series.

Air corgi

All moved into our new place! We dont have a couch and our closet is a kitchen-...no wait. What i meant to say is our kitchen is a closet *nods*. At least its MY closet kitchen :D! We've had some adventures already me and ika, got caught in a bad thunderstorm yesterday while biking from papineau to atwater. Lets just say we got wet. A LOT. It's always nice to see other idiots like us riding outside and cutting through a heavy curtain of rain, especially those 2 girls on a scooter screaming and laughing hysterically on the road. Good times.

This week is definitely a week of NEW. I loved freelancing, but things change and i feel like working with people again :). So i got a full-time job which i start later this month, im very excited! Hope all goes well! It's especially exciting that it's a start-up company, being there at the beginning is quite something.

I managed to do this illustration last night, 'air corgi'. Love oversized animals, and i wont hide the fact that i thought of Appa while making this ;). Oh Appa, you cool thing you~

Thorazine

No i did not forget you kokoroblog, we are moving 2 days from now and ive been busy trying to make things fit. Then ill probably be busy again LATER trying to make things fit elsewhere. My life consists of struggling to find a place for everything.

Still working on my book for ERPI, more than halfway through now. Took a little break from that today and doodled a little bit. I browsed for inspiration and stumbled upon a painting of NayChan (this one: Dreamland) that I absolutely ADORE and decided to try and draw her character Thorazine. YEA so she doesnt look like her... not as much as she should but i enjoyed trying :).

Super hair

Got my hair cut, the shortest ive ever had it. Happy i did it, really like having shorter hair now :)! This is what this week's quick sketch is about

Hopefully ill be able to update more after Kinetik :). Here's a pic i took during the show last night!

La plus belle

ahh yes. Had a bit of free time and doodled this last night :>... 'la plus belle'. I like the idea of the little boy who sees the girl of his dreams in the clouds

So happy i can take pictures with my phone now :D, DECENT ONES! Ill post some here once in a while :), like the one below

Obligation panda

Cant seem to find time to paint these days, obligations tend to get in the way. Lots of work and lots of other important events were keeping me busy. I did manage to do this little portrait though. Im surprised i even finished it. Ive had to deal with allergies all day long. Fuuuuuu~...

Bet youre all disappointed by the lack of panda.

Kyoudai

Hey all!

I finally got around to using the wood blocks i had left from ikas bday present :>. Made a brother and sister! Im actually not that great when it comes to painting tiny details haha so the designs are very simple. Im very happy with the result though, managed to do this in one evening!

And here's a sketch i did the other day, again, for all the lights.

Windy

Im trying to paint different things, different styles and faster :>. Im really no good at speed painting so im trying to get better at that. The piece below was supposed to be a speedpainting but it turned into a slow painting -_-...boooo!

Another concept art for 'all the lights' :)

Empress

Finished all my illustrations for Bayard jeunesse and ALL the sketches for ERPI! HAPPYYYYY! Because i finished i allowed myself to have a bit of a break (tiny tiny one) and painted something for my ongoing project 'all the lights'. Having a character like the empress permits me to draw a lot of detailed accessories, which i like. Most of the characters i have have pretty simple designs, so its nice to have one that i can fall back on when i feel like designing more complicated objects. She's fancy and always has big headgear that shines light :>...

tsunami project

Hello all!

Im loaded with work, and its always then that i have the greatest desire to do personal work. Well, this one was for the CFSL 'Tsunami: images for japan' project. I dont really care if it gets in or not, i just wanted to get this image out :)...

Was greatly inspired by the story of the dogs caught in the tsunami incident, and a picture of a past earthquake i found.

Squiggly Wiggly

Hello hello!

Havent had time to do more japanese sketches lately, although i would like to participate to the charity book CFSL is making. All proceeds would go to help the victims of the tsunami :). I still have to make the drawing, although i dont even know if ill have time to do it -_-!! Too many deadlines, all falling around the same date.

Despite having a lot of work, went to the d&d and managed to produce this

Although there's a lot of nonsense in there, what happens when im tired i suppose. I begin to draw pokeballs and chairs with sexy legs as well as men with squiggly wiggly arms. Also drew Ratchet in there, that you might remember from my animation film Uno :). I've been thinking about her story a lot. Again, when i have more time i would like to write it down properly :)

Expensive boots

Most of my time i spend waiting for checks :>... that is the life of a freelancer *yay*. Because of that i need to plan my expenses very carefully! Like recently, i had to throw away my converse boots that ive had for nearly 4 years... loved these boots to death. Nothing lasts forever unfortunately. I have another pair of boots, but my new rocks arent always kind to me. If i walk long distances i get bad bruises on the back of my ankles. SO ive been window-shopping for boots, looking at stuff online. There's this one pair id love to have but i dont have the money for it, hopefully i will soon :>.

SO today's jap sketch is about this :). 'Yasukute kaou kashira' 'It's quite expensive, I wonder if i should buy it'

Merveilleuse bday

Since Ika was away i was able to work on his bday present without fear of him seeing it :), which is good considering this stuff wasnt exactly easy to hide. My roommate was nice enough to cut up 37 tiny 2X2cm blocks for me so i could make a wooden pixel art character as a gift!

Stained all 37 blocks with acrylic, then glued them all together and voila!

I wasnt sure if i was going to be able to do this, since i needed cubes and didnt have the tools to actually cut them myself. This second gift was actually a backup gift hehe, but since my original idea worked out Ika now had two Merveilles presents :)! I still need to trim and polish the board :D, but you get the idea.

You reap what you sow

In light of all of the stupidities people have said about the disaster in japan, i decided to make an image with a Japanese proverb that basically resumes my feelings towards all this hatred.

'akuin akka' 'You reap what you sow'

Youre all in my heart

This is probably no news to anyone, but yes there was indeed a very bad earthquake in Japan today. I have some friends there right now, who i know are fine, but it breaks my heart to see houses being ravaged by tsunamis like that. Not that its more tragic because its in Japan, its tragic if it happens anywhere. I just have a lot of love for that country, so in a way it kinda hits home.

So today, my heart is with the people of japan

'anatatachi wa watashi no kokoro no naka ni iru' 'you're all in my heart'

Its all about blending in!

My work these days mainly consists of superhero cards and children's books. It's cool, i love what im doing right now but for some reason im feel really tired today. I cant think, i have pudding for brains. I decided to just mess around in photoshop with this photo i had, repainted over it and added tons of stuff~. The result is interesting, i dont do stuff like this normally but it was nice! I dont let myself go often enough... :). Now my brain feels better.

Its aaaaall about blendin' in! Didnt have time to do a sketch to practice japanese, although its the d&d tonight and i will probably work on one there! :D!

Good good news!

I was very productive yesterday, managed to finish a drawing i started a while ago and also made a new one that i submitted to Fresh number 3. The deadline was today and found out about it very late, like always. I hope ill get in, its different from what i usually do but i liked the experience :).

Here is my japanese practice frame ;)... 'I have a lot of work in march' '3gatsu wa shigoto ga isogashii'

I also had an offer from another edition company for another book! So happy!

Hurry up and wash your face!

Im studying japanese at the moment, and im always looking for new ways to practice. Because of work its not easy to find time to do this, so im trying to combine it with something i like... drawing :). A friend of mine is doing little quick comics to practice his korean, i thought it was a great idea and im now going to be doing the same with Japanese. Although it wont be a 'comic' really, just cute imagery. Who knows, if they are nice enough and i make a lot i may combine them into a book to sell to help me finance my upcoming trip :).

Here is the first of many more, i hope!

Drink &Draw: March 1st

Yesterday was our third d&d at Foonzo, a most awesome comic/game themed cafe. The staff is nice, they dont kick us out even if we stay long past closing time. I have a harder time drawing on paper these days, most of the stuff i do is digital. Going out to draw somewhere forces me to pick up old habits again, which i like :). I need more practice.

Here's what i managed to draw yesterday, yes this image is terrible. Im too lazy to scan this so i took a webcam pic of it, although i couldnt sleep and got up at 7h30 this morning and around 8-ish the sun creates annoyingly strong reflections in my screen. This is the result, my blind made an interesting texture... yesss.

This week's d&d attendees: P-RO, Alex Boyer, Eric Angelillo, Yannis Panos, Roz Stockton, Michel D. and more :>

CFSL artbook 5

CFSL INK is a french illustration anthology that showcases the work of many talented artists. Now its at it 5th edition, and im really happy to say that again this year i will be featured in it :). I was lucky enough to be published in it 3 years in a row, never thought that would happen. Other people I know like Cab, Mathieu Beaulieu and Nicolas Francoeur are also part of the roster!

The illustrations that are going to be in are these ones...

Visit CFSL today to find out more about the various book they publish, aside from CFSL INK they also have a beautiful comic collective named Brume which i WISH i had the money to buy. The cover is GORGEOUS, plus i believe that a dollar per copy is donated to an environment fund :). They also have a lot of speedpainting books, and much much more. Yay free publicity!
